Job description - account director

Summary

This is the most senior regular client-facing role. It is primarily a management role rather than an execution role and requires a high level of professionalism, commercial awareness, team management, delegation and coaching. The successful account director will clearly understand their clients' business, be able to advise and provide consultancy to the client not just on their PR requirements but also on their overall marketing strategy. The primary internal role of the account director is to balance the amount of resource they have between their clients, matching skills in their team to client needs, developing the careers of their extended team while managing their account income and resource profitably for the agency.

Experience

Previous experience at account/senior account manager level

Specific Tasks

Overall responsibility for the successful running of the business unit
Management of the account team, including coaching, supervision, career development, assessment and review of direct reports
Management of the overall client relationship, including high-level client relationships
Initial relationship management: the account director will be significantly involved during the kick-off period with a new client to ensure that strategy, messages and objectives are correctly established
Review outbound materials for quality and consistency
Develop and agree strategy with client
Conduct and manage review meetings and strategy setting meetings with senior client staff
Set team objectives on a monthly and quarterly basis
Monitor achievement against objectives to ensure they are met
Deal with issues and escalations on the account
Co-ordinate any crisis management required
Review activities and coverage to ensure client messages are delivered
Implement metrics for coverage and messaging
Management of commercial issues, budgets and resource management
Providing an escalation route for the team
Identify growth opportunities within accounts, or cascades to other markets
Support business objectives around client retention and growth
Support New Business in pitches, ideas creation and networking
Draft material and conduct senior level media liaison
